Crossota millsae is striking in appearance. Its reproductive organs glow yellow within its bell, and its purple arms end in white. C. millsae is often pictured with arms spread out all around it, resembling an alien satellite. I’ve chosen to depict it gliding gently through the deep with gracefully trailing arms, just above its scientific name. This hydrozoan is a bathypelagic animal, meaning it’s found in the midnight zone of the ocean.
