Litha, or the summer solstice, is represented by a green woman, with blue hair cascading over her shoulders. She is crowned with heavy roses and carries a golden orb.

Litha – June 21

The Wheel of the Year

“The Weight of Roses”

The Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year. The sun is at its furthest north, and now it will begin its journey south.

This painting celebrates the start of summer. Litha is the green of growing things, the waters of life flow from her head, and she is crowned with the profusion of roses that June brings. Can you feel their cool weight in your hands?

Litha’s golden orb is a homage to the bright light we are blessed with during this season. Behind her is the glory of the sun disc at its peak.
